Why Reboot?

A little over a month ago, I was in a slump with my dietary choices. I had, over the past couple of months, drifted into my usual pattern of craving high-fat plant foods and chocolate bars (vegan, of course!). It started not with the holidays, when I did unusually well at averting dietary disaster because of my participation in a special Ultimate Weight Loss group called Mastery.

Pinpointing the exact moment when I "slipped" is difficult. But by the end of January, I was eyeing the candy bar selections at Whole Foods, Sprouts, and Trader Joe's markets.

I've followed several low-fat, whole food, plant-based diets at various times in the last 15 years, interspersed with periods of eating higher fat, processed vegan foods that have appeared in supermarkets over that same period of time.  I won't go into a history of each and every diet, but it started with Dr. McDougall's Maximum Weight Loss (MWL) Program in 2001 or 2002.

But before MWL, in 2000, I shifted from a vegetarian diet filled with rich, fattening, and disease-causing, cruelty-laden dairy and eggs to a vegan diet, which was also filled with rich and fattening food that at least didn't cause the death of thousands of animals a year. Because to me, the ethical considerations (and environmental) overshadowed any health benefits of going vegan. But even so, I lost about 40 pounds. It was wonderful.

In 2016, I started the Ultimate Weight Loss Program, which I talk about more here. And over a year, I lost 20 pounds and maintained that weight loss for another year. I completely eliminated sugar and oil and most salt from my diet. Sure, I had days when I drifted back toward those unhealthy additives, but on most days, I ate food that not only helped me get rid of unwanted pounds but also eliminated cravings for crappy food.

But back to last January. After tasting the fruit of the vine (the cacao vine in this case), I couldn't get it out of my mind. Every single time I walked into the market, I thought about that section and walked by it several times, the question "should I or shouldn't I?" repeating in my mind. Most times I answered, "No," but sometimes I shouted, "Yes!"

I watched The Real Truth About Weight Loss summit in March. In it, Chef AJ interviewed dozens of whole food, plant-based weight loss and food addiction experts. As part of the program, various plant-based services and products were deeply discounted, including Christin Bummer's 14-Day Reboot. I signed up right away, having met Christin through Chef AJ's UWL program. Chrstin is one of the most energetic, enthusiastic people I've met in the program, and a wonderful role model, too.

For 14 days, I received a link to a set of videos that inspired and motivated me as well as made me think about why I want to continue to follow this way of eating and living. I also received three ebooks: The 14-Day Reboot Challenge Primer, Food-Mood Journal, and Three-Day Meal Plan to get me started. Plus, I had access to a private Facebook group, which allowed me to connect with like-minded people. As Chef AJ always advises, never underestimate the power of community.

I learned about why I want to keep following this way of living, how I can improve not only my food choices but my sleep (ever so important) and incorporate movement into my day, plus how to de-stress from the demands of daily living. Plus, I learned how to re-boot whenever I find myself struggling with cravings and making poor food choices.

If you want to check it out, do it soon. Right now, it's only $37 to join the program until May 9. You can learn more about this amazing program here.

Thanks for reading about my experience with this program. Have a wonderful day.
